During Spring 2015, a group of friends and I will be touring the entire east coast from Key West, Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine, approximately 2,500 miles in total, following the Atlantic Coast route created by the Adventure Cycling Association. This will be a self contained fully loaded bike tour which means I'll be carrying around 45 lbs. or so. I'm looking forward to experiencing the east coast like never before. With this blog, I plan to post pictures as we progress using the BlogPress APP on my mobile phone. Let's see how it goes and wish me luck. On a bike tour such as this, our daily challenges and not necessarily in this order, will be our physical condition, food, shelter, traffic, navigation, and weather. The above picture was taken during my Southern Tier crossing of the U.S. in spring of 2008. Bike touring requires a specific mind set and a passion.

Windsor Lock to Manchaug

With my persistent chest congestion, it's another tough day for me riding from Windsor Locks to Manchaug, about 76 miles with 4,000 feet of gain, to our first Warmshowers home hosted Denny and Jane, a rustic place on 23 acres. We first met Denny, a solo bike traveler, on the road into Richmond where he invited us to stay at his home when we got to Massachusetts. Denny and Jane are good people and have hosted many bike travelers over the past decade plus since they are located right on the ACA route. We all had a wonderful exchange of experiences related to bike travel and on life in general over our evening dinner. Their space is limited so three of us used our tents and the others camped indoors on the floor. Tonight is the last night for Paula, who has pressing summer travel plans, so she will be departing the group tomorrow for Boston ending her tour.
