During Spring 2015, a group of friends and I will be touring the entire east coast from Key West, Florida to Bar Harbor, Maine, approximately 2,500 miles in total, following the Atlantic Coast route created by the Adventure Cycling Association. This will be a self contained fully loaded bike tour which means I'll be carrying around 45 lbs. or so. I'm looking forward to experiencing the east coast like never before. With this blog, I plan to post pictures as we progress using the BlogPress APP on my mobile phone. Let's see how it goes and wish me luck. On a bike tour such as this, our daily challenges and not necessarily in this order, will be our physical condition, food, shelter, traffic, navigation, and weather. The above picture was taken during my Southern Tier crossing of the U.S. in spring of 2008. Bike touring requires a specific mind set and a passion.

Owings Mills to Delta

Today's ride, 49 miles with 3,400 feet of gain, in the green countryside of Maryland, along side ranches, stables, and farms, was absolutely wonderful accented by the colorful flowers of dogwoods, fruitless plum, and flowering cherry trees; a real treat for the eyes as spring unfolds in the northeast. Today we entered Pennsylvania, staying in the town of Delta, after just one and half days in Maryland and we've now completed more than 2,000 miles. Highlight of the day was the beautiful scenery.

Washington DC to Owings Mills

After Washington DC, it was a bit anticlimactic for me today while riding to Owings Mills which turned out to be 67miles with 4,000 feet of gain. The highest elevation gain on this tour so far. The Hampton Inn in Owings Mills, a nice hotel with excellent service, was the alternate after we decided to cancel our stay in downtown Baltimore due civil unrest. The day, which was perfect for riding with pleasant temperatures and low humidity, was along the Rock Creek Bike trail for the first 24 miles after leaving downtown DC followed by the rolling countryside terrain of Maryland. Yes, we entered another new State today. Few pictures today, perhaps I'll be more inspired tomorrow. Looking forward to our visit of Philadelphia.

Riding the Rock Creek Trail

Beautiful Temple on route.

Patience, the traffic on this country road will pass.

The closer we got Owings Mills, the heavier the traffic.

This is Arthur, my new hitchhiker.

Rest Day in Washington DC

Out and about on the National Mall, there's probably enough here for a week's activity if you include all the free museums.

Some smalls protest all the White House which was under security lockdown.

The closest I could get to the White House.

MLK

His thinking was ahead of his times.

Korean War Memorial

Jefferson Memorial

This helicopter made regular low flights around the National Mall, probably White House security measures.

The Holocaust Museum

Freer Gallery of Art

Smithsonian

National Gallery of Art. It's tough business trying to see it all.
