It can be so very cold when that old north wind begins to blow and blow it did for us today riding from Williamsburg to Richmond, about 66 miles or so through miles and miles of beautiful deciduous woodlands vivid green with the new leaves of spring. Along with the chill today, we are beginning to see a more rolling terrain, however, the hills are short and the grades are mostly gentle so far. The cold weather is unusual this time of year according to locals, but then again, this has been an unusually extreme winter. Highlight for the day, besides our arrival in downtown Richmond, was visiting a Richmond battlefield, the Battle of Malvern Hill, where the Confederate Army under General Lee and the Union Army under General McClellan clashed.
